Dr. (-Ing) Giorgio
Pezzetti
Dr. (-Ing) Giorgio Pezzetti, born in 1954, graduated in Civil Engineering from Politecnico di
Milano in 1979 and began his career at ISMES, Italy’s major research institute in structural
testing. In 1982, Dr. Pezzetti joined the Geotechnical Instrumentation and Investigations
Department, working on critical instrumentation projects worldwide, including the Tower of Pisa
stabilization, Valpola landslide recovery, and the Yacireta dam in Argentina. By 1996, he led
the Geo-Environmental Monitoring Unit, and in 2000, co-founded FIELD Srl, specializing in
geotechnical monitoring. Dr. Pezzetti organized the Fourth International FMGM Symposium and
remains on the FMGM Advisory Committee, sharing his expertise in monitoring for dams, tunnels,
and earth structures. Currently, he consults for the Tarbela and Rogun Dams, co-directs the
ICGSM, and serves as co-chair of the ISSMGE TC 220 committee, actively promoting global
standards and guidelines in geotechnical monitoring.
